K B C PROFILE
The Kentucky Blasting Conference held its first meeting in 1973 with approximately 100
attendees at the Holiday Inn in Lexington, Kentucky and was described as the first organized
technical conference devoted to the blasting and explosives in the USA.   Since that time, it
has grown to a nationally recognized technical conference attracting over 700 attendees
representing all parts of the industry.
The conference has been approved as meeting the requirements for up to eleven hours of
blaster retraining in Kentucky.  Other states such as: Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania,
Indiana, and Ohio have accepted some or all of this training in the past.  Blasters from other
states should contact the regulatory agency in their states to determine its acceptance.  The
conference will provide adequate documentation of attendance for those who need it.
Co-Sponsored by the Bluegrass Chapter and the Tristate Chapter of the International Society
of Explosive Engineers.
Both chapters will have a business meeting on Thursday afternoon at the Conference.    All
current and prospective members are invited to attend.

Important notice for Kentucky Licensed Blasters -

The Kentucky Blasting Conference (KBC)  has cooperated with the Explosives and Blasting
Branch of the Kentucky Division of Mine Reclamation and Enforcement to arrange for
blasters licensed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to get their annual training at the KBC
each year. The conference will repeat the same format as 2010, that is, technical
presentations on Thursday and Friday mornings, with a variety of smaller group workshops
on Thursday afternoon. The Explosives and Blasting Branch will grant four hours of
conference training for attending one of the technical sessions either on Thursday or Friday
morning. A blaster can then attend four hours of classroom style instruction on Thursday
afternoon to fulfill the legal requirements to renew his/her blasters’ license. In this way, the
KBC will serve as a one-stop shop for a blaster to meet the training requirements under the
new law enacted in 2010.

A blaster can obtain his/her eight hours of required Kentucky
training in a single day if so desired, by attending the technical
presentations on Thursday or Friday morning and four hours of
workshops on Thursday afternoon.
